One winter night the temperature fell 12 degrees between midnight and 5 a. m. by 9 a. m. the temperature had doubled from what it was at 5 a. m. by noon, it had risen another 8 degrees to 28 degrees. what was the temperature at midnight?

    At 9am, temperature = 28 - 8 = 20 degrees

    At 5am, temperature = 20/2 = 10 degrees

    At midnight, temperature = 10 + 12 = 22 degrees
