To estimate how many miles you are from a thunderstorm, count the seconds between when you see lightning and when you hear thunder. then divide by 5. write and solve an equation to determine how many seconds you would count for a thuderstorm that is 2 miles away.

    So you've gotta have a variable representing the number of seconds between the time when you see lightning and the time when you hear thunder. I'm going to use x.

    So equation:

    x/5=2

    Solving:

    you have to multiply both sides by five, so it becomes:

    x = 10

    so it's 10 seconds!
