A plane flew 1,000 miles away from London for one flight. For the next flight, it flew 500 miles toward London. How far was the plane from London after the second flight?

    So, It First Flew 1000 Miles Away. So, It Is Positive 1000 Miles. Now, It Flew 500 Miles Closer, So Negative (closer) Distance. So, Add. 1000 + (-500)

    Adding Negative Is The Same As Subtracting So, 1000-500 = The Distance.

    So, The Distance Away Is 500 Miles.
