    If the length is x feet, the width is (x + 5) feet. Formulate an equation:

    2x + 2 (x + 5) = 54

    2x + 2x + 10 = 54

    4x = 54 - 10

    4x = 44

    x = 44 : 4

    x = 11

    Answer: the length of the garden is 11 feet.
