    First, you want to expand the brackets.

    To do this you multiply everything inside the brackets by what comes before the bracket.

    '2' x 'x' = 2x

    2 x 3 = 6

    Now write out the new equation

    2x + 6 = 8

    The next step is to balance the equation, whatever you do on one side, the same is done to the other.

    To get rid of 6, we subtract 6

    Therefore we must also subtract 6 from 8

    8 - 6 = 2

    The new equation is 2x = 2

    Now we divide 2x by 2 to get 1x or x.

    Again, we must do the same to the other side

    2/2 = 1

    x = 1
