Three students candidates competed in a student government election the winner got 5/8 of the vote and the second place candidate got 2/8 of the votes if the rest of the votes went to the third candidates what fraction of the votes did the student get

    Answer: 1/8 is third candidate got

    8 equal parts = 8/8

    first winner: 5/8

    second winner: 2/8

    5/8 + 2/8 = 7/8 (total first and second)

    8/8 - 7/8 = 1/8
