    GCF means greatest common factor, which is the highest common number if we were to break down the two numbers.

    24 = 2 x 12, 3 x 8, and 4 x 6

    40 = 2 x 20, 4 x 10, 5 x 8.

    There are two of: 2, 4, 8.

    Those are your GCF's.
