    The number of bottles Erica capped = 6 bottles

    The number of bottles Erica broken = 9 bottles

    step-by-step explanation:

    step 1:

    Let 'x' be the number of bottles broken

    Then, the number of bottles capped = Total - broken = 15 - x

    step 2:

    For bottles capped successfully = 4 cents

    For bottles broken = - 2 cents

    step 3:

    The total money Erica earned for 15 bottles is 4 (15 - x) - 2x = 6

    60 - 4x - 2x = 6

    60 - 6x = 6

    54 = 6x

    x = 54/6 = 9

    ∴ bottles broken, x = 9

    step 4:

    bottle caped, 15-x = 15 - 9

    bottle caped = 6 bottles

    Thus, Erika broke 9 bottles and caped 6 bottles.
