Objective: Solve problems using the Pythagorean Theorem or Tangent Ratio

Two hockey players are trying to kill some time. They are throwing their mini-sticks against the building from a distance to see who can get there stick to stand up the tallest. The winner was lying at a 43 degree angle. If the mini-stick was 9 inches tall, how high up on the building did the stick touch?

    tan=opposite/adjacent

    tan=9/adjacent

    tan 43=9/x

    x tan 43=9

    0.9325x=9

    0.9325x/0.9325=9/0.9325

    =9.65

    hence;

    x=9.7
