    The area of the walkway is 19x - 32.5

    Solution:

    Given that, a rectangular garden has a walkway around it.

    The area of the garden is 4 (3.5x+1.5)

    The combined area of the garden and the walkway is 5.5 (6x+5)

    We have to find the area of the walkway around the garden as the sum of two terms.

    Now, we know that,

    area of walkway = combined area of garden and walkway - area of garden

    So, area of walkway = 5.5 (6x + 5) - 4 (3.5x + 15)

    Area = 33x + 27.5 - 14x - 60

    Area = 33x - 14x + 27.5 - 60

    Area = 19x - 32.5

    Hence, the area of the walkway is 19x - 32.5
