Answer is 6 whole pieces with 6in to spare.

    (6 x 5) ft + ((6 x 3in) / 12in) = ?

    30ft + (18 / 12) = ?

    30ft + 1.5 = 31.5 or 31ft 6in.

    31ft 6in - 32ft = 6in left.
