    To find this, you must first of all make y the subject of the formula i. e

    from the equation subtract 7x from both side

    which implies: 7x - 7x + y = 9 - 7x

    y = 9 - 7x

    Note: If M1 denote a slope and M2 another slope, for the two slopes to be perpendicular M1 = - 1/M2

    The slope in the above solution is - 7 so the slope of a line perpendicular to it is - 1 / -7 which is 1/7
