    Step-by-step explanation:

    Let the width of the rectangle = x

    Length = 2x

    Perimeter = 96 inches

    2 * (length + width) = 96

    2 * (2x + x) = 96

    2 * 3x = 96

    3x = 96/2 = 48

    3x = 48

    x = 48/3

    x = 16 inches

    Width = 16 inches

    Length = 2*16 = 32 inches

    Area = length*width

    = 32*16

    = 512 sq. cm
