How do you do this problem? 3x+13=x+1

    3x+13=x+1, cancel out 13 on both sides.

    Now you'll have 3x=x-12. take away 1x from each side.

    You now have 2x=-12.

    Divide both sides by 2, and you'll have x = - 12.
