    Both numbers have 9 as their biggest shared factor so you take out 9:

    9 (3x + y)

    Ab+ac=a (b+c)

    a is the common factor

    factor each

    27x=3*3*3*x

    9y=3*3*y

    common factor is 3*3 or 9

    9 (3x) + 9 (y) = 9 (3x+y)
