    So let's say Patty Ann is planning a party. She invited 17 people. Patty Ann plans on giving each guest 3 pencils. She doesn't know how many people will accept the invite. She also doesnt know if some pencils could be lost. To be on the safe side, she estimates that she will need 60 pencils (20 times 3).
