Suppose I have a triangle with sides of length of 3.5 4.5 and 5.5 yards is this a right triangle

    We can find out by using the pythagorean theorem

    a^2 + b^2 = c^2 ... where a and b are the legs and c is the hypotenuse, which is the longest side.

    a^2 + b^2 = c^2

    3.5^2 + 4.5^2 = 5.5^2

    12.25 + 20.25 = 30.25

    32.50 = 30.25 (incorrect) ... therefore, it is NOT a right triangle
