    a + 3b = (-4, 11)

    Solution:

    Given vectors are a = (-1, 2) and b = (-1, 3).

    Adding two vectors:

Add first component of one with first component of other and

add second component of one with second component of other

    To find a + 3b:

    a + 3b = (-1, 2) + 3 (-1, 3)

    = (-1, 2) + (-3, 9)

    = (-1 + (-3), 2 + 9)

    = (-1 - 3, 2 + 9)

    = (-4, 11)

    Hence a + 3b = (-4, 11).
