    Before the industrial revolution, most of the moth population had white wings. During and after the industrial revolution, the moth population has evolved to have a majority black population. This happened due to changing natural selection pressures. The black moths were able to camouflage in the 'dark environment' caused by soot from the industrial revolution. The moths were less linly to be preyed on compared to white moths that stood out in the 'black' environment. Over a generation, the allele for white-color, because it offered a disadvantage, becomes 'weeded out' of the population.
