    This could also be written as

    4 multiplied by something add 3 equals 35

    4x + 3 = 35

    Balance the equation, whatever happens on one side of the equals must happen on the other.

    4x + 3 (-3) = 4x

    35 ( - 3) = 32

    4x = 32

    We now know that 4 multiplied by something = 32

    We want to find what 1 is

    Divide 4 by 4 to get to 1

    Do the exact same to 32

    32 / 4 = 8

    x = 8
