    40 minutes is 2/3 of an hour.

    30 miles per hour x 2/3 hour = 20 miles.

    30 minutes = 1/2 hour.

    60 miles per hour x 1/2 hour = 30 miles.

    Total = 20 + 30 = 50 miles.
