    sunflower on 185 acres and wheat on 472 acres

    Step-by-step explanation:

    The farmer must plant in such a manner that profit will be maximized based on the resources available. Given that profit (as a function of the acres used in planting) is greatest if the farmer plants 287 acres more of wheat than of sunflowers.

    Let the acres used to plant sunflower be T then the acres for planting wheat will be T + 287,

    As such,

    T + T + 287 = 657

    2T = 370

    T = 185 acres

    T + 287

    = 185 + 287

    = 472 acres

    It means that the farmer plants sunflower on 185 acres and wheat on 472 acres.
