    Answer: 2miles / 2.5miles.

    Step-by-step explanation:

If rentals for a car costs $35

subtracting this $35 from budget of $85 gives us

    $85-$35 = $50

By travelling one mile, we subtract $20, we're then left with

    $50 - $20 = $30.

By travelling another mile, we subtract another $20, which gives

    $30-$20 = $10.

Since this $10 is not enough to cater for another mile, the maxmimum number of miles is 2miles.

But if allowed in halves, the $10 can cover half a mile and the longest possible distance she can travel is 2.5miles
