    x = - 16 / 11

    Explanation:

    Twelve Less Than A number: x - 12

    Is The Same As: =

    Twelve Times The Number: 12x

    Increased By Four: + 4

    x - 12 = 12x + 4

    Subtract 12x from both sides

    x - 12 - 12x = 12x + 4 - 12x

    -11x - 12 = 4

    Add 12 to both sides

    -11x - 12 + 12 = 4 + 12

    -11x = 16

    Divide both sides by - 11

    -11x / - 11 = 16 / - 11

    x = - 16 / 11
