    We see that both equations have 4y in them. Subtracting the second equation from the first equation, we get (3x - 2x) + (4y-4y) = 2 - 8, x = - 6

    Plugging x = - 6 into any equation, we see that our answer is 18 + 4y = 2, 4y = 2 - 18 = - 16, y = - 4.

    Our answer is x = - 6, y = - 4
