    each pound of almounds cost $2.50 and jelly beans cost $1 a pound

    Step-by-step explanation:

    1. 8x+3y=23

    2. 2x+5y=10

    2x+5y=10

    -2x - 2x

    5y=-2x+10

    divide both sides by 5

    y = -.4x + 2 then plug this the new y value into the first equation

    8x+3 (-.4x+2) = 23

    8x - 1.2x+6=23

    6.8x+6=23

    -6 - 6

    6.8x=17

    divide both sides by 6.8

    x=2.5

    now plug x in for equation 1 or 2 i choose 2

    2 (2.5) + 5y=10

    5+5y=10

    -5 - 5

    5y=5

    y=1

    x=2.5 y=1
