    Let's solve by eliminating

    x

    . Since 18 is the lowest common multiple, let's multiply the first equation by 3 and the second by - 2.

    Add the two equations.

    Divide by - 11 to isolate

    y

    y = - 2

    Substitute

    y

    =

    -

    2

    into either of the 2 equations, I'll just use the second one.

    x = - 1
