    2x + 6y = - 6

    Factor out the common term 2

    2 (x+3y) = - 6

    2 Divide both sides by 2

    x+3y=-6/2

    3 Simplify 6/2 to 3

    x+3y=-3

    4 Subtract 3y from both sides

    x=-3-3y

    2x + 6y = - 6

    2x + 5y = - 2

    y = - 4

    2x + 6y = - 6

    2x + 6 (-4) = - 6

    2x - 24 = - 6

    + 24 + 24

    2x = 30

    2 2

    x = 15

    (x, y) = (15, - 4)
