A.) If D is a right angle and lines PN, FG, and BD are parallel to each other, prove

SPN  SFG  SBD.

b.) Use the diagram to solve this practical problem:

A person who is 1.5 m tall casts a shadow of 8 m. The distance along the ground from the person (N) to the flagpole (G) is 32 m, and the distance from the flagpole (G) to the building (D) is 200 m. Find the height of the flagpole (FG) and the height of the building (BD), showing all calculations.

    I saw the diagram that should have accompanied this problem.

    PN is where the person is standing

    FG is where the flagpole is located

    BD is where the building is located.

    PN = 1.5; SN = 8m

    FG = ?; SG = 8m + 32m = 40m

    BD = ?; SD = 40m + 200m = 240m

    PN/SN = FG/SG = BD/SD

    PN/SN = FG/SG

    1.5/8 = FG/40m

    1.5*40 = 8*FG

    60 = 8FG

    60/8 = FG

    7.5m = FG height of the flagpole

    7.5m/40m = BD/240m

    7.5*240 = 40BD

    1800 = 40BD

    1800/40 = BD

    45m = BD height of the building.
