    Y = 1/3x - 10

    sub in 1/3x - 10 in for y in the other equation

    2x + y = 4

    2x + 1/3x - 10 = 4 ... multiply everything by 3 to get rid of factions

    6x + x - 30 = 12

    7x = 12 + 30

    7x = 42

    x = 42/7

    x = 6

    2x + y = 4

    2 (6) + y = 4

    12 + y = 4

    y = 4 - 12

    y = - 8

    solution is : (6,-8)
