Two containers of gasoline hold a total of 46 gallons. The big container can hold 5 gallons less than twice the small container. How many gallons does each container hold?

    Small container=x

    Larger container = 2x-5

    X+2x-5=46

    Add 5 to both sides

    3x=51

    X=17

    The small container holds 17

    The larger container holds 2 (17) - 5 or 29
