    Step-by-step explanation:

multiply second equation by - 2

    -2 * (x+y) = 3➡ - 2x - 2y = - 6 now add up both equations

    3x + 2y - 2x-2y = 5-6 ➡x = - 1 (-2y eliminated + 2y)

now use the value we found for x in the second equation to find the value of y

    x + y = 3 we found x as - 1

    -1 + y = 3 ➡y = 4
