How much does a 12-

pound package weigh after

a 3-pound book is taken

out? will mark brainest very confused

    Well, we have to figure out WHY it's called a "12-pound package".

    It's probably because when they packed it, or when they put it on the shelf in the store, or when somebody came in to buy it, they weighed the package, and stuck a big red label on it that said "12 Pound Package".

    THEN, after the customer got the 12-pound package home, they cut it open on top, and took out a book that weighed 3 pounds.

    It's pretty easy to see that the REST of the package only weighs (12-3) = 9 pounds, even though the label still says 12.
