    Replace y for y = 6x ... 6x = - 8x-14 Get the x's on one side of the equal sign, and constants on the other; Add 8x to 6x ... 14x = - 14 Divide by 14 to get x alone ... x = - 14/14 = - 1 The answer is x = - 1
