    Dave:

    $20 + 8% of 20 = $21.6

Dave payed a total of $21.6 for the basketball.

    Mel

    $28 + 8% of 28 = $30.2

Mel payed a total of $30.2 for the football.

    $30.2 - $21.6 = $8.6

    The difference is $8.6.
