A student heats a crucible and sample of a hydrate as directed in the lab procedure. However, the student removes the crucible from the wire-clay triangle without placing the lid back on the crucible. What will happen to the mass of the crucible and contents as it cools?

    The mass will alter with time as water is absorbed back into the crystals.
