    49.32 lbs

    Step-by-step explanation:

    146 (Beginning balance) - 67.08 (remaining balance) = 78.92

    78.92/1.60 (price per pound) = 49.325

    49.325

    Step-by-step explanation:

    First the equation is $146 = $1.60x + $67.08

This is because the total amount is $146 so that is what it must come out to. then you have the amount per pound ($1.60) you will times that by how many pounds Ahab bought which we don't know yet so we represent it as x. then you add $67.08 to it because that is whats left.

to solve you will subtract 67.08 from 67.08 and 67.08 from 146. you do this on the right side of the equal sign to get the x alone. and you do the same on the left side of the equal sign because you have to keep the equation level. after that you divide 1.60x by 1.60, and what will now be 78.92 (146-67.08) by 1.60 to find what = x
