Lionel wants to buy a belt that cost 22 dollars. he also wants to buy some shirts that are on sale for 17 dollars each. he has 80 dollars. what inequality can you write to find the number of shirts he can buy. identify what your variable represents

    17 = cost of 1 shirt

    x = number of shirts he'll buy

    80 = budget

    22 + 17x < 80

    -22 - 22

    17x < 58

    :17 : 17

    x < 3.41

    Lionel can buy a maximum of 3 shirts to stay within his budget of 80 dollars.

    To check:

    22 + 17x < 80

    22 + 17 (3) < 80

    22 + 51 < 80

    73 < 80
