    combine all like terms

    6x+5=7x+8

    then you get all the x's on one side

    -x=3

    get x by itself

    x=-3

    x=-3

    Step-by-step explanation:

    Step 1: Collect like terms ... 6x+5=5x+8+2x (meaning add 5x+2x)

    =6x+5=7x+8

    Step2: Move Like variables to one side of the equation and change the signs of each ... = 6x-7x=8-5

    Step3: collect like terms = 6x-7x = - 1x or - x ... and 8-5=3

    Step 4: since a variable cannot be negative, you change the sign to the opposite side of the equation which would be x=-3
