    use x to represent the unkown numbers

    and y to represent the one number which is more than 11

    so the equation will be like this

    x+x+y=87

    x+x+11=87

    2x+11=87

    2x=87-11

    2x=76

    now divide both sides by the x variable

    2x/2=76/2

    x=38

    now you know one x to be 38

    and the question made it clear that one number is eleven times more than the other

    therefore the other number is 49

    so 38+49=87
