    6435 different communities.

    Step-by-step explanation:

    This is a combination problem,

    We need to know how many ways 8 species out of 15 can be selected for the new small island

    15C8 = 15! / (15-8) ! (8!) = 15! / (8!) (7!) = 6435 different communities.
