    3x - 1/2 (8x - 2) = 4

    3x - 4x + 1 = 4

    -x + 1 = 4

    -x + 1 - 1 = 4 - 1

    -x = 3

    x = - 3

    Mistake was made in step 2, because the terms have been added incorrectly.
