    First you distribute the - 5 into 4x and - 7 and get the equation 15-20x+35=5. Next you combine like terms, 15 and 35 and get 50-20x=5. Next you subtract 50 from 5 to get 20x by itself and get 20x=-45. Finally you divide - 45 and 20 and get x=9/4 or 2.25
