    20 = 1/2 (4x-6)

    Multiply the bracket by 1/2.

    (1/2) (4x) = 2x (cross out 2 and 4, divide by 2)

    2/2=1, 4x/2=2x

    (1/2) (-6) = -3 (cross out 2 and - 6, divide by 2)

    2/2=-1, - 6/2=-3

    20=2x-3

    Move - 3 to the other side. Sign changes from - 3 to + 3.

    20+3=2x-3+3

    20+3=2x

    23=2x

    Divide by 2 for both sides.

    23/2=2x/2

    x=23/2 and x=11 1/2

    Answer: x=23/2 and x=11 1/2
