    The length of each side of the larger square is 8 cm.

    Step-by-step explanation:

    Step 1;

    The combined area of two squares = 80 sq. cm The side of small square = x The side of larger square = 2x

    Step 2:

    Area of the square = a^2

    Area of small square + area of large square = 80

    x^2 + (2x) ^2 = 80

    x^2 + 4x^2 = 80

    5x^2 = 80

    x^2 = 80/5

    x^2 = 16

    x = ±4

    Step 3:

    Since length cannot be negative, the value of x = 4

    ∴ The length of the side of small square = 4cm

    The length of the side of larger square = 2x = 8cm
