A radioactive substance has a decay rate of 0.044 per hour. How many grams of a 100 gram sample will remain radioactive after 2 hours? Round the answer to the nearest tenth of a gram, and do not include the unit in your answer. If necessary, include a leading 0 with any decimals less than 1. For example, 0.4 instead of. 4.

    91.6

    Step-by-step explanation:

    N (t) = N e^ (-kt) N = 100 at initialk=0.044t=2100*e^ (-0.044*2) = 91.5761round to the nearest tenth = 91.6

    91.4

    Step-by-step explanation:

    If the substance decays at a rate of 0.044 per hour,

    After one hour, 0.044 of 100 gram sample would decay. This is equivalent to;

    Weight decay after one hour

    = 0.044 * 100

    = 4.4 grams

    If 4.4 grams decayed after an hour, the mass of the substance left

    = 100 - 4.4

    = 95.6 grams

    After one more hour (that is 2 hours), another 0.044 of 95.6 grams would decay hence, mass that would decay after another 1 hour;

    = 0.044 * 95.6

    = 4.2064 grams

    Remaining mass

    = 95.6 - 4.2064

    = 91.3936 grams

    ≈ 91.4 grams
