How to convert mixed numbers into improper fractions?

    1. Multiply the whole number by the denominator.

    2. Add the answer from Step 1 to the numerator.

    3. Write answer from Step 2 over the denominator.

    Example:

    2 3/4

    You would multiply 4 (the denominator) by 2 (the whole number) which would leave you with 8. You would then add 8 and 3 (the numerator) resulting in the sum of 11.

    Eleven would be placed in the numerator area, while the denominator of four would stay the same - 11/4.
