    Rearrange - x+y = 3 to y = x+3

    Then substitute into the first equation.

    4x - 2 (x+3) = - 22

    4x - 2x - 6 = - 22

    2x - 6 = - 22

    2x = - 16

    x = - 8

    Then I put this into y = x+3

    y = - 8 + 3

    y = - 5
