During the months of August and September the total rainfall was 6.2 inches. If the rainfall in August was 0.6 inch more than the amount of rainfall in September, how much rain fell in each month?

    In August, the rainfall was 3.4 inches and in September the rainfall was 2.8 inches. If we let s=September's rainfall the equation would be:.6+s+s=6.2.

    Solving that equation would result in September's rainfall and we can add. 6 to that to find August's.
