    Probability is the chance (the likelihood) that certain event will happen.

    In our case the events are:

    1. one of the diners orders fish

    2. one of the diners is wearing dress

    The or in the question means that we should sum the probabilities of the two events in order to get the asked probability.

    The probability is a numerical value between the number 0 and 1.

    probability of event happening = number of ways it can happen / total number of outcomes.

    1. The probability that one of the diners orders fish = number of diners who ordered fish / total number of diners

    p1=45/100=0.45

    2. The probability that one of the diners is wearing dress = number of diners wearing dress / total number of diners

    3. p2=14/100=0.14

    The probability that one of the diners ordered the fish or is wearing a dress is: p=0.45+0.14=0.59
